Hi! My name is Rick Holliday, and I would like to tell you a little something about myself. I was born and raised in Richardson, TX, and graduated from J.J. Pearce High School in 1976. I attended Texas Tech University and graduated in 1982, with a degree in Landscape Architecture.
While growing up in Texas, I developed my passion for snow skiing. My parents took our family on our first ski trip during the Christmas holidays in 1969. Even though I broke my leg and was in a cast for twelve weeks, I was hooked! We went skiing as a family every year until I went off to college. During my college days, my passion was so strong that I be came a part of the Auxiliary Ski Patrol at what was then Ruidoso Mountain and is now known as Ski Apache. I also worked my way through college at a local ski shop in Lubbock called Downhill Racer. That is where I met my partner, Gil Murray. He and I worked together for Downhill Racer, where he went on to open and run the Dallas store and deepen his career in the ski industry. I became General Manager and Head Buyer for our Lubbock store. It was during my time with Downhill Racer that I crossed over from an avid skier to being interested in the snow sports industry.
In 1982, I moved to Houston, TX, to start my career in business. While living and working in Houston, my passion for skiing and the snow sports industry continued to grow. I skied as many days a year as possible and supplemented my passion by working part time as a ski deck instructor and ski shop employee at multiple stores in the Houston area. It was during my time in Houston that I married my lovely wife, Ginny, also an avid skier. We have one daughter, Erin, who has been skiing since the age of four and is now an excellent skier in her own right.
After retiring from the business world and moving back to Dallas, my passion for skiing was still strong. One day while shopping for new skis and boots, I ran into my old friend and mentor, Gil Murray. Within a fifteen-minute conversation, we both knew our own ski shop was imminent. We have worked hard over the past year to put together a concept for a unique and professional ski and snowboard shop. Our passion has now become our business. Please come in and share your interest with our passion at Ski Frisco Sports!
